The Mobile County Personnel Board is currently accepting online applications for LIBRARY PAGE on a continuous basis.
Once the Personnel Board creates the LIBRARY PAGE list, it will be valid for one year and Mobile Public Library will use the list throughout the year to fill vacancies.

Kind of Work
This is routine clerical and entry level sub-professional library work.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)
- Shelves books, tapes, newspapers and periodicals
- reads and straightens shelves and ensures that materials are in correct numerical order
- inspects films and makes minor repairs
- files stock reports and other business periodicals that must be continually updated
- assists the public and answers routine requests for information
- sorts and distributes mail
- searches shelves for books listed on system-wide search list
- assists librarians with displays and special projects
- prepares order forms for books and vertical file materials
- mends books and periodicals
- assists in preparing books and materials for circulation
- puts spine labels and plastic covers on books
- substitutes at the public service desk
- prepares computers for patron use
- assists patrons with computer database
- assists patrons at the circulation desk
- empties book drop
- files catalog cards
- performs related work as required
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Completion of a minimum of two years of high school; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Essential Requirements of the Work
- Good knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic
- some knowledge of the routine operations of a public library
- some knowledge of computers
- ability to readily acquire some knowledge of fundamental library principles, methods, materials and practices
- ability to keep accurate records
- ability to locate books and materials quickly
- ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and library patrons.
Special Requirement
Must be at least 16 years of age - no maximum age limit.
Distinguishing Features of the Work
An employee in this class performs routine clerical and sub-professional library tasks such as shelving books, periodicals and films, repairing library materials and maintaining files. Work is performed under the general supervision of a librarian or other superior. No supervision is exercised over others. The employee is expected to work shifts.
